Nicholas really enjoyed running around on the sections of turf - maybe because he had been in his stroller all morning while we were out shopping :) Don't bother listening to the sound, all you can hear are the left over winds from Hurricane Earl.

What a difference a year makes.....
We headed off to Patriots Place today, almost the exact same date as last year! Oh how things have changed :)

Nicholas really enjoyed running around on the sections of turf - maybe because he had been in his stroller all morning while we were out shopping :) Don't bother listening to the sound, all you can hear are the left over winds from Hurricane Earl.

Our adventure with Cellulitis
This picture does not even begin to show how bad Nicholas' ankle looked from his skin infection!! But here's how it went down.....
Friday morning, Nicholas woke up with a red, swollen ankle that was warm to the touch. I waited for Dan to get home from an early morning golf round to give me his opinion as to whether to take Nicholas to the doctor since he always thinks I over react. He said definitely. So off we went. We had a 10AM appointment. We saw a different pediatrician than usual. She diagnosed his ankle as having a bad reaction to a bug bite.
Later in the day when Nicholas woke up from his nap, the ankle was even more swollen and was starting to look bruised. I called back the pedi who assured me she was still confident that it was a reaction to a bug bite.
Come 2:30 in the morning, Nicholas woke up in pain. The swelling and redness was spreading and he was now limping.
By 7AM, he could no longer walk on the ankle. As expected, the on-call pedi suggested heading to the emergency room. This is what we were trying to avoid by taking Nicholas into the office on Friday morning!
Nicholas was promptly diagnosed with cellulitis - a major skin infection. He was then given antibiotics by IV and we were prescribed antibiotics to be given 4 times a day for the next 7 days.
Nicholas has been such a trooper. Both the pharmacist and pedi said the meds taste horrendous if even flavoring is added but he has been suffering thru it like a champ. The swelling has gone down and the redness is starting to subside. The skin at his ankle was oozing for a couple of days and then started peeling away. It's now starting to crust over and get itchy. Poor guy! But he is up and running around - no shoes for a while though.... just when he was getting used to them :(
Poor Nicholas has now been to the emergency room 3 times in the past year. This trip was definitely the most frustrating because we tried so hard to avoid it. Needless to say we will try to avoid this pedi in the practice from now on!
